Melnor/Gardena 101 Flowmeter Water Timer August 3, 2008 H. Britt 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I purchased this Flowmeter Water Timer in order to prevent loss of water in my Havahart water scarecrow system. We have a big deer problem in our portion of New Jersey. The water Scarecrow works better than anything else in scaring away the deer. I have approximately a dozen water scarecrows in series off a garden hose, but have been concerned that a leak in the system, especially if we are away, would result in many wasted gallons of water. In the past I placed a flowmeter water timer between the spigot and the series of water scarecrows and set to stop after a few hundred gallons of water. In the past the flowmeter water timers leaked. This year we had a plumber insert a pressure reducer and the Flowmeter has worked perfectly.

I've tried almost all of the mechanical water timers available and have concluded that the 101 from Melnor is the best. It has lasted the longest without leaking and, most importantly, it always shuts off (surprisingly, many others, notably the Gilmour and Sears branded timers, do not).
Melnor Water Timer August 31, 2008 Doug D. (WI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great product. It shuts off automatically. Set it and walk away. The best part is...no batteries to buy. The timer runs off water volume, and can be adjust to be used for gallons of water or time. Highly recommend.
This could save your Koi! September 16, 2002 Robert L. Hight (Tulsa, OK United States) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After a year with my first Koi pond (4000 gal), I dozed off one day while making a water change. Instead of putting in 500 gal I added 1500 gal before I woke. Fortunately, I had used enough dechlorinator so my fish were OK....This time. I've met several people who have killed all of the fish in their ponds by forgetting to turn off the water under similar circumstances. And even if the Koi are not killed, chlorine damage to the gills appears to be permanent. When I make a water change, I want to add a precise amount of water. This nifty little flow regulator is perfect for the job. Since it is powered by the water flow, there are no batteries to remember. This is about as user friendly as a piece of equipment can be and how can one beat the price. The most inexpensive fish in my pond cost several times the price of this regulator. If everyone who has a koi pond used the Melnor 101, countless Koi would grow to adulthood. I can't imagine ever again adding water to my pond with out using one.
Reliable Garden Watering April 6, 2008 William Brogden (Leander, TX USA) There are plenty of devices which will let a hose run for X number of minutes, but if your water pressure varies a lot, time is not a reliable indicator of the amount of water delivered. The Melnor "Timer" is really a flow measuring device - exactly what you really want. We use it with about 75 feet of soaker hose to dispense 200 gallons.
